Monday, March 12th, 2012 by Dave Rippe
In early 2011, Mayor Powers, along with members of the Hastings City Council, the Board of Public Works, and the Hastings Economic Development Corporation, started discussions pertaining to the creation of a local economic development fund for business and industry. The concept of such a fund is certainly not a new idea, as more than 60 communities around Nebraska currently devote a portion of their local sales or property tax to economic development.

How’s Your Health?
Thursday, March 1st, 2012 by Jill Kimle
I’m sure we’ve all had complaints in one way or another about our local health care. From the initial call to schedule an appointment to the length of time in the waiting room to the doctor’s bedside manner, we’ve all been frustrated at some point. It comes with the territory. But after this past month, I am still grateful for the “small town” atmosphere that is generally found with our providers.

A Fresh Look
Friday, February 10th, 2012 by Jill Kimle
The first time I wrote for the Hword I wrote about my impression of Hastings when I arrived as a perspective (and later on an enrolled) student. That was a LONG time ago, over 20 years in fact. Living Big in a Small City
Monday, February 6th, 2012 by Josh Wooster
Upon starting at Hastings College, I had embarked on an adventure to a small city in the middle of Nebraska. Being from Omaha, it was a culture shock. Hastings Dining Dilemma
Friday, December 9th, 2011 by Pat McCoy
I have always lauded Hastings for the LACK of chain restaurants. We have the fast food explosion, but when it comes to dining, the locally owned restaurant reigns in Hastings – that is not such a bad thing. I cannot understand when people travel, why would you go to a chain restaurant when you can do this anytime?

Welcome Home
Wednesday, April 6th, 2011 by Judy Sandeen
As we drove into Hastings from the north Tuesday evening, I experienced a great sense of comfort and warmth. We had been in Minnesota for just one week, for a granddaughter’s seventh birthday and an appointment, and we had had a wonderful time visiting with family and experiencing a new museum and interesting restaurants.

Why I keep returning to Hastings again and again…
Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010 by theHword
For over seven years I have come from my home in Nashville , Tennessee, to play music in central Nebraska and, believe me, I have my reasons for returning again and again as I do.

Norfolk thinks Hastings is doing something right.
Thursday, January 7th, 2010 by theHword
Interesting story in Wednesday’s Omaha World-Herald. It seems that some Norfolk leaders recently visited Hastings to learn more about how we’ve been able to build and retain a vibrant downtown.
