Store Review: Climate
Upon hearing of a new business opening in Hastings, I find myself generally intrigued—excited even. When I learned that one of Hastings newest business additions would be a new clothing store, I was ecstatic. After all, I proudly list shopping and fashion as one of my number one hobbies and interests. The decline in the options Hastings residents have in regard to purchasing apparel only heightened my enthusiasm for the arrival of Climate. I decided to check out the new store with my husband in tow.
Located on west Second Street next to Jimmy John’s, Climate has an attractive store-front that is a great addition to the efforts being made to improve historic downtown Hastings. Upon entering the shop, my husband and I were immediately welcomed (warmly, I should add) by a Climate sales associate. Through our quick visit to the store, I should mention that the young staff seemed fun and personable. And although the store is relatively small, the racks of clothing and stacks of denim were easy to navigate through and organized.
What will you find at Climate? Mainly denim, t-shirts, sweatshirts and other casual apparel items that are primarily “mainstream” brands such as Roxy, Billabong, Silver and more. My husband was unusually excited by the fact that Climate carries Sutter’s brand denim, as he purchased a pair of these jeans at a Nordstrom’s years ago and hasn’t been able to find the brand locally. In fact, I feel that their denim selection is a huge asset. The carry some great brands and styles that can’t be found locally.
In my opinion, Climate is a store that will be very popular with the teenage and college-aged crowd. The pieces there are very casual; an abundance of neutrals and earth-tones; very young; and easy to mix-and-match. Think less Carrie Bradshaw and more “carry your books to class.”
So although I didn’t end up finding anything that suited my personal style, I feel that Climate is a great addition to Hastings—and especially to out downtown. I would encourage anyone to stop by their store and take a peek.
Have you checked out Climate? I would love to know what others thought about Hastings’ newest clothing store. Share your experience by leaving a comment.

Nice article and even nicer store. If you have kids or relatives in that high school or college age range, you need to get them down to Climate. They even have some great clothes for the 30-something crowd.
20 somethings, 30 somethings, 40 somethings…..
AND 50 somethings !!!!
the store has
SOMETHING for every age ….. men & women !!!! Layer, Mix it up …. A STELLAR selection of JEANS for everyone !!
Thanks for the comments! Bob, I agree that people should be sending their high school or college-age friends and family here. This would be a great store to purchase gift cards/certificates from for birthdays, graduations, etc. Climate carries a very similar line-up to stores such as the Buckle and instead of traveling to Grand Island to shop there, why not try Climate? Susie, great note about the denim. There is sure a lot to choose from.
Ive been in the store and thought it was really nice. The only thing I was wondering are there people that spend $100 on a pair of jeans?
Jody,
Thanks for your feedback on the article. Yes, there are people who spend $100 (or more!) on denim. With jeans, I truly believe it all boils down to each person’s unique situation, style and of course, budget. From my experience there is a good variety both over and under the $100 mark. There are also a number of people out there who see a pricey pair of jeans as an investment. They can have one or two pairs of expensive denim that they LOVE (perhaps with a designer label or a higher grade of quality) or a stack of $20 jeans that they feel lukewarm about. In my opinion, if you choose to invest in a pricey pair, make it a classic style (no holes or tons of embellishments–sorry, those trends seem to come and go too quickly!). Also, think about sticking to a darker wash–very timeless. In closing, I will say that I’ve gotten equal compliments on a pair of dark wash, skinny jeans that I paid $12.50 for at a Forever21 and a pair of designer Max Azria jeans I own that retail for a lot more!
climate may have a few jeans that are $100, but a lot of their denim is priced below the $100 range… jeans range from $49.50 to $118, for both men and women, but like i said most of their denim is below 100 dollars.
