Rivals Sports Bar and Grill
With all this rain lately, my lovely co-worker and partner in crime, not only at CCC but on the H-word, too, Lindsay Higel and I decided to take advantage of a beautiful day by finding a restaurant that we could enjoy eating outside. This decision led us to Rivals Bar & Grill.
Garden is In
This past two or three weeks has been rather busy at the Higel Homestead. School is officially out for the summer for both the little humans (Kaylee-10 and Blake-7) and meeeee tooooo! As another school year comes to a close, we are happily into full summer mode, although Mother Nature apparently wasn’t as ready as we were.
Fast & Furious 6
Sequels have an expiration date most of the time, but one sequel alone has continued to swiftly power through time and again. The plot may not matter, physics may be challenged, and Vin Diesel sometimes has a serious case of mumble mouth, but “Fast & Furious 6” is the most fun at the movie theater I’ve had so far this summer.
Top Five Reasons Why Going to the Movies is No Longer Worth It
First of all, let me begin by saying that I absolutely love going to the movies. It’s one of my favorite hobbies. Something about seeing a film that you’ve anticipated for quite some time up on the big screen is a joy ones heart seldom feels. Unfortunately, for several reasons, this experience will never be the same as it once was, forcing us to accept the fate of modern cinema.
Busy in Summer
As an elementary physical education teacher the importance of kids being active is crucial to me. Summer time is time to be spent outside enjoying the beautiful weather with friends and family. As a teacher I know that some children need more encouragement to be active than others so… parents here’s a way to help. All you need is some close pins, paper and a creative mind.

Public television, a gem
Public television is sneaky. You wouldn’t think that a program about a rain maker from California helping out dry ranchers in Montana would be interesting, but it was. I watched it for almost an hour. The rain maker was successful, in case you were wondering.

Sharing
There are so many opportunities to share with others at this time of year. Hastings is a very generous community, as borne out by the many giving trees, mitten trees, and food drives at various places throughout the town. Whether you take a paper ornament from the tree at Hometown Variety and Gifts with a suggestion for a small gift for an elderly person, a Salvation Army gift suggestion from the Angel tree at the Imperial Mall, or place warm scarves, mittens and hats on a tree at your church, you can easily help someone less fortunate than yourself.

Up on the House Top…
Growing up where I did (a farm on the edge of a VERY tiny central Nebraska town), we did our share of decorating for the holidays. I always enjoyed seeing the displays others would put up in their yards, especially when we would happen to be in the “big city.” As a student at Hastings College (MANY years ago) I loved the sights of the downtown area lights and the neighborhoods with the elaborate displays in yards.
