Summer Slow Down
As I was driving home from Lincoln, after spending the weekend with my family celebrating my brother’s college graduation and Mother’s Day, I got to thinking about summer. I have so many fun things planned already, basketball, weddings, weekends at the lake, concerts, fairs and races…then it hit me just how busy I’m going to be!
Cash Mob!
The Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce is supporting local business by introducing a first for Hastings: CASH MOBS!
Semester Tests – Round 2
In 2011, I wrote about semester one tests at Adams Central, and it was a fairly distasteful blog post. Well, I’m going to be even more pessimistic this time. How can I loathe (that loathe with an ‘e’) something more than the first round of semester tests? That’s a good question.
Light Up the Sky
Here we are again, on the precipice of the “official” start of summer. Spring sprung quickly, the moths have come and gone, and now the temperatures are rising. There always seems to be excitement in the air too with school getting out for the summer. Well this, my friends, is my charge for you to make the most of summer.
Vandalism at the Park
What is the deal with vandalism, destruction of other people’s property, and general disrespect for what’s not yours??? I don’t get it. And now that I have a family, I really don’t appreciate having to explain to my young children what vandalism is.
Fitting June into the month of May is a different way of thinking for those of us who love the yard and garden. It’s been tough waiting for May 10, the usual frost free date, before setting out annual plants and planting the garden. Maybe history will record a change to this average date as the climate warms.

Let’s Get Some Shoes
I got tired of spending $100+ on a pair of shoes (not really, I’m sure my mom did, but it didn’t really affect me). I needed a new pair of kicks for walking around in, and I had been thinking about which ones to by. I went onto the Eastbay website, and I didn’t really find anything that caught my eye. So since Eastbay didn’t offer much, what place would? Wal-Mart would, duh.

Ninja’s
This week I’m going to change up my blog a bit so I can brag about my ninja’s! I coach an 8th grade girl’s competitive basketball team and we just recently finished our winter season. Our team is called Nebraska Heartland and our unofficial mascot is the Ninja, kind of an inside joke…but funny none the less…or at least we think so.

A Commitment to Grow Hastings
In early 2011, Mayor Powers, along with members of the Hastings City Council, the Board of Public Works, and the Hastings Economic Development Corporation, started discussions pertaining to the creation of a local economic development fund for business and industry. The concept of such a fund is certainly not a new idea, as more than 60 communities around Nebraska currently devote a portion of their local sales or property tax to economic development.

Time and Time Again
I should probably say something like, “But oven time is good! Good things happen to those who wait. Fill-in-the-blank is going to be totally worth those ’17 minutes.’” And, “Things that are gained quickly are futile.” Of course, these statements can be true. But heck! It’s not always true.

A Good Book
It seems that everything in my life is pointing to reading these days. Dr. Seuss’s birthday was last week, Hastings Public Library is having a Reading Rave this weekend, and there have been several stories in the Hastings Tribune about reading books and library cards.

The ACT
The ACT is a college entrance exam required by all students wishing to attend college to take. My mother had me sign up for the ACT this past weekend, and I must admit I wasn’t too thrilled about the idea of waking up early on a Saturday morning to take four tests spanning over a three and a half hour period, but mother knows best.
