Semester Tests – Round 2
In 2011, I wrote about semester one tests at Adams Central, and it was a fairly distasteful blog post. Well, I’m going to be even more pessimistic this time. How can I loathe (that loathe with an ‘e’) something more than the first round of semester tests? That’s a good question.
Light Up the Sky
Here we are again, on the precipice of the “official” start of summer. Spring sprung quickly, the moths have come and gone, and now the temperatures are rising. There always seems to be excitement in the air too with school getting out for the summer. Well this, my friends, is my charge for you to make the most of summer.
Vandalism at the Park
What is the deal with vandalism, destruction of other people’s property, and general disrespect for what’s not yours??? I don’t get it. And now that I have a family, I really don’t appreciate having to explain to my young children what vandalism is.
Fitting June into the month of May is a different way of thinking for those of us who love the yard and garden. It’s been tough waiting for May 10, the usual frost free date, before setting out annual plants and planting the garden. Maybe history will record a change to this average date as the climate warms.

It’s a vertical race up 40 flights of stairs, 870 individual steps and 633 feet in the sky, it’s in the First National Tower in Omaha on February 25. So needless to say, I’ve been running a lot of stairs.

Living Big in a Small City
Upon starting at Hastings College, I had embarked on an adventure to a small city in the middle of Nebraska. Being from Omaha, it was a culture shock. No nightlife, lack of entertainment, and minimal chain restaurants. I thought I would hate it. But, spending most of my time on campus taught me how much more important the people are—instead of all the available activities.

Maisie Dobbs
I first met her a number of years ago when I was recovering from a bit of surgery and a friend lent me the first book (and only book, then) by Jacqueline Winspear about Maisie Dobbs. I ripped through it, as I do with most novels, but Masie stuck with me, and we’ve now stuck it out together through eight books. Why?

Mail Order Plants
The nursery and garden seed catalogs have been arriving for the past two months. This is the time when I like to spend time checking out new cultivars of vegetables and new varieties of perennials flowers. Honestly, I think the main reason I look through the catalogs is to drool over the picture perfect examples of what I image growing in the yard and garden.

Coaching, it’s in my Blood
The definition of a coach in the Webster’s Dictionary is “one who instructs players in the fundamentals of a competitive sport and directs team strategy.” While I would agree with that 100%…coaching involves so much more.
