TV Parties

What is your favorite television program? Is it a comedy like “The Big Bang Theory” or “Modern Family?” Is it a crime-drama such as “CSI” or “Castle?” Or is it a reality show like “The Voice” or “Dancing with the Stars?” Whatever program you may enjoy, make it an experience: Invite some friends, watch with the whole family, or make a date of it. Turn your favorite shows into something more than just a program on a random night.

At Hastings College, I used to share an apartment with a few guys and our main TV was in the living room. Every so often, we would watch TV at the end of the night to unwind and would usually settle on random Food Network programming. But once we found the “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”, all of our late-night viewing turned into must-see experiences. Each night, while enjoying the dirty jokes and crude humor, the guys and I would enjoy talking more to one another about our daily lives and experiences. Basically it helped bring us closer. What I am saying is: Find the program you like, find the people you like, and mix them. I am thrilled that we did. I would not take it back for anything.

Remember, it’s not always about what you do but who you’re with. I think gathering for favorite programs, live or queued up on DVR, is a great way to enjoy the show characters but also the characters in your life as well. Add your favorite food or beverage and all of a sudden you have a “night in” that can be just as enjoyable, if not more, than a night out.

About the author: Josh Wooster

I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, where I attended Millard West High School. I chose Hastings College because it gave students personal attention, extracurricular options, and music ensembles better than those of other colleges in the state. I am currently the leader of 1-2-5, the men’s a-cappella singing ensemble, while also being a part of the Hastings College Choir and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the men’s music fraternity. Other commitments include being an intern for the Hastings Chamber of Commerce and membership in the Student Environmental Action Coalition and Society for Collegiate Journalists. “Free time” for me involves arranging music for 1-2-5, working at the Lochland Country Club, and searching for a job. I am a jovial spirit with a diligent attitude towards work, and a keen eye for detail. I hope to stick around Hastings after college to work and give back to the city and college that have offered me so much.
