Concert Season

artimg1Spring (and even a little bit of summer) are in the air! The Hword has already seen a number of articles on the joys of this season and for good reason. This really is the most wonderful time of year and I base that fact on two powerful and very exciting words: Concert Season!

We’re quickly entering the time of year when live music surrounds you. From festivals and fairs to beer gardens and arenas, the sounds of music will soon be found everywhere. This is a great time of year for fans of live music because you get to experience so much variety. The big name musical acts launch their national tour, and we’re fortunate to now have a number of venues in Central Nebraska and, of course, in the eastern part of the state. Plus, concert season can expose you to some terrific local musicians.

artimg2Concert junkies like me are always anxious to learn of the next headlining act coming to our area. One thing I’ve learned is to not spend my time constantly checking venue web sites for updates. Sure, they’re a good source of information, but they announce new concerts only when they are ready. Heck, I can’t wait that long. I want to know of new concerts now! The best resource out there is the Pollstar site (www.pollstar.com). You can search concert dates by artist, venue or city. Search “Hastings, NE” and you’ll get a full list of concerts in the tri-city area, some of which haven’t “officially” been announced yet. It’s the perfect way to keep in the know!

artimg3Perhaps the shining star of concert season is the ability to discover local acts. It’s always a great experience to discover those hidden gems of area talent when they serve as an opening act or while perfuming at a local festival. Everyone’s musical preference differs so I’ll refrain from telling you who you need to see. Just make sure to spend some time at the local music stage when you visit the fair. There’s a good chance, you’ll discover something great.

No matter if your preference is rock or Bach, do take the time to enjoy the excitement, energy and talent of spring and summer concerts. Live music rocks.
