Give away all your money…

I know this title sounds a little scary. But I promise you it really is a good thing.
My wife and I have been surprised with the number of small (and large) groups and organizations that fundraise in Hastings. From hospitals and colleges to churches and support groups, there never seems to be shortage of places to send our money.
It is my belief that we are very fortunate in Hastings, that we have so many small and large groups of passionate people that work together for a common cause. Kaleena and I are excited about the upcoming fundraiser “A Chocolate A’Fur” for the Heartland Pet Connection. Many communities have animal shelters, but the Heartland Pet Connection seems to shine above the rest… A fully air-conditioned building, individual play rooms, and a staff that trains animals before they go to their next home.
As a fundraiser myself, I can attest to the generous and thoughtful people in our community. There are many, many individuals who we see over and over at various fundraisers and events. Most of these people are not flashy, sports car driving folks (not that it’s bad if you drive a sports car), but the people who work hard for their money and realize when good things are happening.
I realize that everyone works hard for their money and certainly Wall-Street can scare us from time to time, but it is these groups, and the people who support these groups, who fight for those who can’t afford an education or need a place to sleep for the night.
It is also these groups that bring us together as a community; it gives us something to fight for. Kaleena and I have been fortunate in many ways here in Hastings, but it is truly the passionate people that we have met here that have made the most significant impact on who we are and who we will become. Thank you, “Passionate Do Gooders”, we appreciate all you have done, please know it is not unnoticed.
So, ask yourself the question, “What am I passionate about?” And, know that there are probably many more people who are passionate about the same thing you are. It’s just a matter of coming together and deciding to make a difference.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has,” Margaret Mead. I wonder if Margaret Mead ever stopped in Hastings…
