Mom’s Night Out
We can all use a night out once in a while to re-charge, re-group and just have some fun. What better than wine tasting and a comedy show to do just this?
Last weekend our Mops (mothers of preschoolers) group got together to have a Mom’s Night Out. We are a group of stay at home moms and working moms. Let me tell you, us Moms cherish a night out. We love our children dearly, but there are days.
So we got the kids fed, or arranged for the kids to be fed in our absence. For some, this consisted of chicken nuggets and applesauce, or others, like my husband took to the going out to eat approach. We dusted off our “going out clothes”; made sure they were spit up free, and headed out.
Our first stop was the Friday night wine tasting at WineStyles. What a lovely building and atmosphere. For $5.00, and us moms love a good bargain, you get a glass and the opportunity to sample and taste test a variety of wines. There are white and reds, dry and sweet wines. There are local vineyards represented and not so local. What a delight to sit and talk, uninterrupted, and laugh with friends. I especially liked a white from a vineyard in Lincoln. I usually go for the reds, but I was so pleasantly surprised with this. I now know too, for a fact, I do not favor the sweet, “dessert wines”. Wow. But, what a great opportunity to get a taste of a variety of wines, and I tried them all! There are also crackers offered and I had a taste of spicy chocolate. Overall, what a fun trip we had and from the amount of people there, word has gotten out about this event.
Our next stop was next door to the Knights of Pythias building for the comedy show. Last weekend they hosted the Pink Ribbon Comedy Tour. This is a group of comedians donating a portion of the ticket sales to end breast cancer. And, one of the comedians happened to be Nick Hoff, a Hastings native. What a great show it was. There were 4 comedians who each had the crowd rolling. After the show, my cheeks were sore from laughing and smiling, and how good does that feel! If you have ever been to the Knights of Phythias for a show, you might appreciate this. One of the comedians referred to doing stand up in an igloo. That got the laughs, too.
These two places are a couple of examples of the little gems our town Hastings has to offer. Our Mom’s Night Out was a success and I’m sure there will be more to come. We all can use a night out once in a while!
