Family Fun Night
For weeks my children have been begging to go miniature golfing. We can’t remember how it was first mentioned, or why, but once the idea was brought up, little minds wouldn’t let the thought drop. It’s not always easy this time of year for my husband to slip away from the farm, so last weekend, on a whim (and after an unexpected rain shower the previous night) we decided to surprise our kids with a miniature golf night in Hastings.
My husband and I hadn’t been miniature golfing in years (at least a decade has passed since the last time) and obviously our children had never experienced it. So let’s just say that when we were asked if we needed a scorecard, a snicker and a laugh gave the attendant an answer.
My kids were off like a shot once we got inside. They had no idea what they were doing, but they were raring to go. My son needed no help with his form and he shot like a pro, but it took my daughter at least 20 or 30 minutes to get the hang of how to hold the club. In no time they were doing better than us. And even after a whack on my son’s head from my daughter’s club, and my daughter conking herself on a windmill arm (due to not looking ahead as she walked by), the kids were hooked.
I don’t know how busy the miniature golf course normally is on a weekend night, but I was pleased to see a fair amount of people out enjoying themselves the night we went. I will have to say that the grounds are starting to show their age, and maybe the rains haven’t done any favors with the conditions of a few areas, and a little yard work needs to be done, but all in all, it was a fun entertainment option to take our kids on a nice warm evening. We hadn’t even driven off and they were already begging for the next trip back. We will have to arrive a little earlier than we did this time because our kids are also begging to give the go carts a try.
If you find yourself needing an entertainment option for your family, give the miniature golf course by Pastime Lanes a try. There’s no age requirement, and you don’t even need to keep score!
