Cats and the Heartland Pet Connection

img1I talk about my cats like they are people. I am probably one four legged friend short of being a cat lady, as some of my non-cat friends have pointed out, but I’m okay with that. Snickers (yes, after the candy bar) and John F. Kennedy (as in the former president) are just over a year old and they absolutely crack me up. I try to be mad at them when they unravel and eat the toilet paper off the roll, but it’s hard when they are so darned cute. There I go again, sounding like a cat lady.

img2I got my cats from Heartland Pet Connection last July when they were having a kitty sale. They were waving the adoption fees, and as usual, if you have your pet spayed or neutered, you get reimbursed for the expense. So they were free! Let’s not mention all the food, cat litter, and noisy crinkle balls they’ve gone through since then. It’s a small price to pay to have two adorable cats greet you when you come home and cuddle with you on the couch during the cold winter months.

img3If don’t want to be accused of being a nearly cat lady, or you’re allergic to cats and dogs (poor you), you can support the Pet Connection in other ways. Every year in the early summer, they hold their annual Doggie Dash, which is a 5K/10K race. Sign up and your registration fee goes to the shelter. Each month in their e-newsletter, they have a list of items they need such as old towels, paper towels, bleach, and the like. For less than $10, you can make a small difference. They host the Chocolate A’fur event every February that combines the yumminess of chocolate and wine. If you can stand the cuteness of homeless pets and aren’t at risk of almost taking each one home with you, you can always donate your time at the Pet Connection.

Just typing this makes me want to go home and pet them. I know, I know. Cat lady in the making…

  1. This is a great post. I don’t think the idea of adopting shelter cats (and dogs) can be stressed enough. I think when families are considering getting a pet, places like the Pet Connection are perfect. And there is something about the love you receive from a rescued animal–it’s like they KNOW you saved them. Again, great topic. From: Another Crazy Cat Lady :)

  2. Thank you! Thank you!
