Summer Slow Down

As I was driving home from Lincoln, after spending the weekend with my family celebrating my brother’s college graduation and Mother’s Day, I got to thinking about summer. I have so many fun things planned already, basketball, weddings, weekends at the lake, concerts, fairs and races…then it hit me just how busy I’m going to be! I made the realization that last weekend was the first of five in a row that I will be spending in a hotel…then this feeling of dread and sadness came over me…summer is going to fly by!

I guess being busy is what summer is all about. Last summer I would get home Sunday night drop my bag at the door and slowly unpack it through the week, rush around from activity to activity, then repack my bag to leave on Friday for the weekend. The way it looks this summer is shaping up to be exactly the same. Last summer I went from one thing to the next not really taking in the moment, I know I had fun (because I always have fun) but did I really take time to really enjoy it? In some cases I know I did, but in others not at all. Some things are just a blur because so much was happening at once. I know everyone is like this, between kids activities, vacations, family get-togethers and work…the summer we are all hoping to enjoy fly’s by in the blink of an eye.

So, this summer I’m going to slow down and enjoy the moment, each and every one that I can. Even the little every day things don’t have to be done in such a hurry. I know I have a lot of things going on this summer but I’m not going to rush through them just so I can get to the next one on my calendar. And I’m going to take time to relax and just enjoy the weather or the company of a friend and not be in such a hurry. The sun is out, the weather is warm and my days are filled with family and friends…so what’s not to enjoy? :)
