Rivals, Hastings’ newest restaurant, opened last week. I had the chance to sample the menu on Saturday and was quite pleased with the creative additions to the “sports bar” menu scene.
My favorite was the Rivals Burger – hamburger topped with bacon, tomato, cheese, mayo AND a fried egg. Ok, cardiac arrest but the burger was wonderful. We had buffalo chips as the side, a fried potato round with a spicy kick the combination was fantastic. Next we tried the Hawg Wild Wings – pork wings with an assortment of sauces to choose from, we tried the suicide squeeze and the sauce hurt so good. The pork wings were a great departure from the traditional chicken wing – which I think are overrated.
Rounding out the feast we sampled the hot sticks and pub pickles. Service was great, Michelle our waitress was new to the waitress job, but you would never have known this without her saying something. She was a delight.
So, five stars to Rivals, a welcome addition to the Hastings dining experience.

I would say that Rivals is more of a bar than a grill. The menu is small and they stick to burgers and fried foods. I love the rival burger and the sports look of the bar.
I was surprisingly underwhelmed. The food was fairly awful, and the service was slow. We ended up eating less than half of our meals and rushing out.
