My Other Sons

Monday morning as I was driving into work I saw a black Mustang, well what was left of it, being pulled out of the ditch by a wrecker truck.  My heart immediately sunk! Adams best friend Timmy drives a car like that.  I grabbed for my phone and speed dialed his number. I have almost all of Adams friend’s numbers in my phone just in case I can’t get ahold of Adam.  Timmy answered the phone sounding all groggy, you know, since I just wake up a teen age boy at 7:30 in the morning and he probably went to be at 2 am or later.  I asked how he was and he said “fine” with a tone of “why are you calling me at 7:30 in the morning”.  I was so happy to hear his voice that I started to cry and couldn’t get much else out for a minute.  When I was able to talk again I told him what I had seen and I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t his car that I just saw being towed out of the ditch.  He told me no he was fine and his car was in the drive way.  That made me so happy to hear! I told him I was sorry for waking him up so early and to go back to bed and that I would see him later.

Well, that got me to thinking, see I live in Glenvil and I have a 20 minute drive to work each day, so a lot of that time is spent planning my day, making grocery lists from memory and just thinking about my family.  Well, this time I was hit with the reality that it will not just be Adam leaving the house but it will be all his friends that have come to call our home there second home that will be leaving also.  See Timmy has been a big part of our lives for the last 5 years.  The boy’s freshman and sophomore years I think that boy eat more at our house than he did his own.  Timmy has gone to family functions with us; he has gone on Family vacations with us, we have taken him to the sporting events that the boys were in so he could watch them and just been around us all the time.  When Adam leaves for college next year so will Timmy and the rest of Adam’s friends who I have grown to love as my other son’s.

I am sure that coming over to our house when they are back from college will not be on the top of their list of things to do when back home but I would like to think that Adam would keep in touch with them enough so I can know what is going on in their lives as they grow up also.

Facebook has helped me keep up with some of his friends that have already graduated and moved on.  I first wanted to be their friends on Facebook so I could spy on Adam and make sure he isn’t doing anything that he should be doing.  It is nice to see that his friends “my other son’s” are all doing very well and are happy.  I guess I have already kind of experience some of my “other” kids leave the house and I have managed.  I am sure I will be fine when it comes time for my own………………NOT!
