Giving Back

With Halloween over and Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, one can’t help but to think about the holiday season and everything that goes with it. Family, friends, parties…and food! The weather is also changing and my taste buds begin to want all the yummy comfort foods of the winter season.

For people struggling with weight or wanting to get back in shape (ME) the holiday’s…well mainly the food…can be a really hard time. There are so many temptations everywhere you look making it really hard to be good and stick to your plan. The opportunities are really endless, there are treats at work all the time, at home, at family gatherings, parties, school functions for kids, even at the store!

I don’t want all of my hard work the last few months to be sabotaged during my favorite time of the year! I have gotten a lot better at only eating until I’m full and not over stuffing myself and having goodies in moderation. So this year, I’m not going to worry about what I’m eating, only about how much. I’m going to enjoy the holidays and all the food that comes with it! One thing I am going to be sure to stick to is my workout plan, if I work out consistently through the holiday’s the damage won’t be so bad. I also think that by not obsessing about holiday eating, will make it easier to stay on track…I crave unhealthy food a lot more when I tell myself I can’t have it.

This holiday season I will worry less about my waist line and my abs and enjoy my time with family and friends and give back to those less fortunate than myself.

I am so thankful I have food to eat during the holidays and family and friends to share it with! There a so many people who will have to worry about getting a meal at all and worry about if there kids will be able to eat. There are people in our own community who worry about that daily and that’s the last thing they should have to worry about this holiday season.

So, I have a challenge for you…

The Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a canned food drive now through December 19. Please bring any new canned item into the Chamber so we can help the less fortunate of our community enjoy the holidays too!

Canned food will be distributed to organizations that provide food for the less fortunate in the Hastings area.
