Both of my children have gotten into the kiddie rides this year. It was hard to convince them to go home when it was time to leave. As far as we adults, getting a funnel cake is the highlight of the fair! :-)

Netflix and Redbox definitely did not kill movie gallery in this town, movie gallery did.

I was used to the great customer service at Applause but Movie Gallery went in and offered some good specials so we started going to movie gallery. The new soon wore off when you could not ask questions because they were on their cell phones or talking to their friends. Browsing was also hard because of the way they divided the store.

We do use netflix because we can get cable shows like extreme engineers and older movies. Netflix is great but it is limited if you are wanting new releases. Our rental status with Applause has stayed about the same. Applause needs to know the limitations of netflix and keep their niche, not everyone has interenet as hard as that is to believe and beyond that they don't always have the equipment to make the movies family viewing.

Thanks for your articles, keep them comming!

We are relatively new to the fair, but my kids love the animals. Something about a gentle cow that speaks to them!!

My choice would be the Back Alley Bakery. They have fresh homemade, and homegrown food, good service, and great atmosphere. They also promote other Nebraska Entrepreneurs and independently owned businesses!

Another way to green your wedding and save money at the same time is to find dresses, shoes, and even gifts through swap sites. My sister had a green wedding in June and we swapped a pair of heels at http://shoeswappers.com for a beautiful pair of wedding shoes that had never been worn.

I find this is big at Pizza restaurants in Hastings. Pizza Hut (during lunch) has the best service in town. PaPa Rays, Rivals, and Kitty's are also good places to get good service, but it also depends on the server/cashier. Valentino's, Little Caesars have horrible service in Hastings. The children that work at Val/Ceasars there really do not care if the Pope walks in. You will always receive bad service..

After reading this post, I researched as much as I could about rainbarrels. After viewing different styles, I purchased a decorative rainbarrel through Home Depot. How delightful to receive word via the Hastings Utility billing that now an incentive is being offered for rainbarrel purchases. $75 - WOW! I might purchase another if I can find a local retailer to stock a barrel similar to one I bought before.

Thanks for the incite on this issue Don!
