I first met her a number of years ago when I was recovering from a bit of surgery and a friend lent me the first book (and only book, then) by Jacqueline Winspear about Maisie Dobbs. I ripped through it, as I do with most novels, but Masie stuck with me, and we’ve now stuck it out together through eight books. Why?

Salvaged Goods
Friday, January 27th, 2012 by Amy Sandeen
I am a fan of salvaged goods. Back in college, we used to have a system of goods exchange. Unwanted items were left in the dormitory hall. Other dorm residents were free to snap up and repurpose the items in a new wardrobe or dorm room.

Eat and Peek
Monday, September 12th, 2011 by The Hastings Museum of Natural and Cultural History
Did you know the Hastings Museum holds a free monthly brown bag lunch series? Yup. We do. We’ve been doing this for almost two years. Each month we discuss a different topic using artifacts from the collection, some of which haven’t been seen by the public for several years. Afterwards, you can pull on the bright green curator gloves and touch the objects for yourself.

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011 by Jack Sandeen

Let’s start with the fact that Hastings is home to many artists who work with many different disciplines: paint, ceramics, fabric and photography, to name a few. Add Mike Snyder, owner of Snyder Street Rods, to the list because there’s really no better work than “artist” for what he does.
