How choosing online can kill local choice.

While I am also guilty of shopping online, I think that we all need to realize we all do see huge benefits from shopping locally. The benefits may not come in single $1 or $2 increments on our receipt but the overall impact is much greater than that $1 or $2.

Blizzard brings new perspective on the Holidays

Today, as I sit here starting my article, I am snowed in. I don’t mean just a few inches of snow blocking a door. We are dealing with an all out blizzard which happens to be…on Christmas Day! And, because we live in the country, we are seeing nothing but white outside the windows.

How Safe Is It in Hastings?

Ever a sense of safety and being surrounded by people I consider good neighbors. Hastings is a community that when asked about, nearly every resident will remark “it’s a nice, safe town—a great place to raise your family.” Several weeks ago a concrete boulder crashed through the secure, snow globe life I had been living here…literally.

Wingin’ It at Taylor’s

My mother always told me that it’s rude to lick your fingers in public. I resisted the urge to put my fingers in my mouth, instead wiping my messy hands politely on my napkin and went on with my meal. A few of these good eating habits were tossed aside, however, on one Thursday night last February when one of my friends invited me to Wing Night at Taylor’s Steak House (on North Kansas Avenue) here in Hastings.

Christmas is More Than Just Gifts

As an adult, the holiday season passes a bit differently than it does as a kid. Instead of counting doors with chocolate resting behind them, I watch the days pass on my Outlook calendar at work, and Christmas always seems to be coming too soon.
