“We humans are a minority of giants, stumbling around in a world of little things.”
-Sue Hubbell in Waiting for Aphrodite
Earlier this summer, a neighbor commented that my yard is like a Disney movie – there are always songbirds, rabbits, and squirrels hanging out. I’m guessing they break into song and have fabulous animated adventures when I’m not looking, too.

Did Netflix and Redbox Kill the Video Store?
Wednesday, July 21st, 2010 by Russanne Erickson
When I moved to Hastings, I was happy to discover that there wasn’t a large chain video store like Blockbuster. It brought me back to my college days in Pullman when we would go “save Video Quest.” Pullman, which was about the same size of Hastings when I lived there, boasted two Blockbusters and the locally owned Video Quest.

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010 by Jill Kimle
Our 4th of July holiday this year got off on the wrong foot. Things initially started out really well as we attended a fireworks display the night of the 3rd. However, about an hour after our arrival home, we knew something wasn’t quite right. Our dog Sammy was missing.

She looks at me smugly and replies “Or when I move away to college” and bounds out of the room.

You Made Your Bed, Now Lie In It!
Tuesday, July 6th, 2010 by Denise Howie
A few weeks ago, we came to the conclusion that Monkey #1’s bed, which was a few years older than him, was shot. After all, it was the cheapest bed we could find and we shouldn’t have expected it to get him through. Initially we purchased the double bed for “guests,” which at the time [...]

How To Save A Life
Friday, July 2nd, 2010 by Kelli Poplau
You probably don’t need me to tell you that being a lifeguard means guarding people’s lives. That’s pretty much a given. The thing that many people fail to realize, however, is that it’s more than just an average job.

4th of July at Fisher Fountain
Thursday, July 1st, 2010 by Judy Sandeen
I’m not sure when the YWCA started holding their Independence Day celebration at Fisher Fountain, but I sure wish it had been going on when our two were little. On the other hand, maybe it’s even more fun to attend and take in the festivities without finding costumes, decorating the tricycles or wagons, and figuring out whether the pet should be in the parade.
