Monday, December 12th, 2011 by Becky Sullivan
This year, as a representative of the Office of Healthy Living, I am officially revoking your license to eat! Without your license, you will be unable to fill your plate more than once at the holiday party, make more than one trip per day to the office goodie trough or sit like a bump on the couch because if you got up to excercise, someone ELSE in the family would get to eat the homemade chocolate candy the neighbor brought over.

Hastings Dining Dilemma
Friday, December 9th, 2011 by Pat McCoy
I have always lauded Hastings for the LACK of chain restaurants. We have the fast food explosion, but when it comes to dining, the locally owned restaurant reigns in Hastings – that is not such a bad thing. I cannot understand when people travel, why would you go to a chain restaurant when you can do this anytime?

Ode to an Apple Corer Peeler Slicer
Friday, October 14th, 2011 by Amy Sandeen
Mmm…the warm smell of cinnamon and browning pie crust is like no other. I can hardly wait. It’s a rainy autumn day, and I’m getting together with friends later. With a few free hours this morning to do laundry and other domestic homey things, I might as well also bake a treat to share with those friends.

Canning
Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 by Russanne Erickson
It turns out that I can be super domestic when I put my mind to it. The boyfriend and I recently canned cucumbers for the first time. If that doesn’t make me domestic, I don’t know what does. Do I have to overtly state that we are pickling them, or is it implied when you say you are canning cucumbers? Either way, we magically turned cucumbers into pickles.

We are extremely fortunate to have two farmers markets in Hastings. The produce stands right now are bursting with colorful bounty, and there are all kinds of variety in the choices of fresh produce available there.
