Food Safety and Barbeques

When shopping, buy cold food like meat and poultry last, right before checkout. Separate raw meat and poultry from other food in your shopping cart. To guard against cross-contamination, put packages of raw meat and poultry into plastic bags.

When the City Girls Visit

Our two grandgirls, ages 6 and 8, seem to love to visit Hastings from the big city of St Paul, Minnesota. While I’d like to think that their grandparents are the greatest reason, the truth is that they have an absolute blast when they’re here, and the attractions of Hastings are the big draw.

The Hastings Public Library is Super Rad!

Books are amazing. The day after I moved here – literally – I went to the library to get my library card. I didn’t have anything with my address on it, so I had to have my landlord type up a letter saying I did indeed live at the Chateau. The library lets you read books for FREE!

Taking Hastings “Higher”: An HJCT Theater Experience

Over the next few months, TheHWord.com will feature blog posts related to a theatre production being presented by the Hastings Junior Community Theatre (HJCT). This group will be performing “Higher”, an original play written by Superior, Nebraska, native AP Andrews. A number of authors will document their experience on TheHWord.com, including Christine Cottam, HJCT director; and several students involved in the production.
